Original Prusa XL 2024
Every Original Prusa 3D printer receives long-term support for years after launch. Not just small bugfixes, but major firmware and hardware upgrades that bring useful new features.
The XL has already received a number of major upgrades for free:
- Input Shaper and Pressure Advance for super-fast printing
- Phase Stepping makes the printer beautifully quiet
- Fast network printing with Prusa Connect
- Stealth Mode
- Stuck filament detection
- Cancel Object in the printer’s menu
- Enabled touch support
- …and many other smaller tweaks and improvements across the board
Zero-Waste Printing
Getting a 3D printer is just the beginning: you will need more and more filaments and the XL is here to keep the running costs down by eliminating excessive waste! Every single-extruder printer on the market needs to purge the leftover filament from the nozzle during every color/material change. With many printers on the market, the filament waste can often be up to four times greater than the weight of the printed object itself.
The XL was designed for efficient multi-material printing with zero-to-no waste and super-fast operation. A tiny priming tower for nozzle pressure stabilization is usually present, but with properly dried filaments and wipe-to-infill options, the XL can print completely without waste! No wipe towers, no flushed filament around the printer!
Combine Materials
With the individual toolheads, you can easily load various materials and combine them easily during a single print. You can combine Flex with PETG and use PLA for easily-removable supports. If your project requires advanced and expensive materials, such as PCCF, you can use a cheaper material to print supports, reducing total costs.
Fastest Multi-Material Printer
When you want to print with multiple colors or materials, the Original Prusa XL with its lighting-fast toolchanger, Input Shaper, and Pressure Advance technologies, delivers results faster than any competition on the market and with the same premium quality as the award-winning MK4.
XL Toolchanger
The toolchanger is the cornerstone of the Original Prusa XL. Keep up to five materials loaded at all times and print multi-material objects faster than ever before. With filaments loaded into the nozzle, there are no lengthy filament change procedures. The toolchanger swaps individual heads in an instant and thanks to its streamlined mechanical design offers unparalleled reliability. You can load up to five 2kg spools on the XL and print a 10kg object without touching the printer.
Keep on Printing with Spool Join
Spool Join is a feature that automatically switches to another spool when the current one runs out during a print. It’s perfect for both finishing partially empty spools, but you can also start massive uninterrupted prints: load up to five 2kg spools, enable Spool Join and let the printer produce a huge 10kg model without a single user intervention.
Exceptional Print Quality and Reliability
Speed is nothing without quality! The XL delivers multi-material prints much faster than any other desktop printer on the market while retaining top print quality across the entire print surface. The Nextruder delivers exceptionally good performance, especially with extremely steep overhangs up to 15°, and easily handles even flexible filaments. The superb precision of the printer ensures you can print parts that fit perfectly together.
High-Speed Printing
Speed matters when you need to finish a project on time or produce a large number of prints. The Original Prusa XL uses a native Input Shaper and Pressure Advance implementation, bringing a massive speed boost without sacrificing print quality. The XL is easily the fastest multi-material desktop printer on the market, producing beautiful complex prints in record times.
Large and Precise
Achieve unparalleled precision with the Original Prusa XL! We have tuned the print profiles so that you can design precise parts and work with 0.2mm accuracy. When you need to add a specific component, like an M3 screw, into your design, you know you can rely on the XL’s print accuracy.
Beautifully Quiet
With the Phase Stepping technology on board, the printer precisely measures its motor response characteristics and automatically adjusts the driving signal to make the XL silent. In other words: despite its speed, the XL is beautifully quiet, so you can leave it running next to your desk and continue working without being distracted by noise. And you can enable the Stealth Mode to make the XL even more silent!
Easy to Use
With automatic calibration, one-click printing and an always-perfect first layer, the XL takes care of all the tedious tasks for you. Forget adjusting the distance between the nozzle and the print bed and don’t worry about running out of material mid-print. The XL is simple to use, easy to maintain and comes with a detailed handbook that will guide you through every aspect of multi-material printing.
Perfect First Layer Out of the Box
Forget Live Adjust Z or manually adjusted screws. The XL lays down an absolutely pristine first layer across the entire bed every single time. It doesn’t matter what kind of print surface you use, the XL’s Loadcell sensor will always precisely measure the offset without being thrown off by reflective or textured surfaces. The sensor doesn’t rely on visual data, offering unparalleled precision on every kind of print sheet out there!
Tackle any type of filament
No matter whether your project requires PLA and PETG, or even ASA and carbon-filled filaments, the XL can handle them with ease - even flex! With its direct drive Nextruder, printing flexible materials is easier than ever before and you can create amazing flexible projects without breaking a sweat (or your printer). Most materials do not require an enclosed printing space, but for those that do, there’s a dedicated Original Prusa Enclosure.
Wi-Fi and Prusa Connect
The Original Prusa XL offers both wired and wireless connection options, allowing you to control your printer from anywhere using our secure and encrypted Prusa Connect system. Drop a G-code into your browser window and start the print mere seconds after the beginning of the upload. Prusa Connect offers a robust set of options, allowing you to schedule your prints, or monitor them remotely via a webcam.
Color LCD Touch Screen
Pick your favorite way to control the XL! You can either use the physical knob for tactile feedback or the ever-so-popular touchscreen panel. The color LCD provides you with easy-to-navigate menus and simple-to-follow instructions, and with features such as G-code previews, QR codes, Cancel Object functionality and many other useful improvements, using the XL is a joy!
Unique Segmented Heatbed
The XL is equipped with a modular segmented heatbed driven by a separate electronic board to push the print quality and reliability further. The heatbed consists of 16 individually controlled tiles designed to prevent heat deformation which is usually present in printers with a single large heatbed. You can always find the perfect print surface for your material with our proven double-sided print sheets with various surface textures. It can also switch off unused tiles to save energy.
Power-Loss Recovery
Large prints can easily take many hours to finish. However, you don’t need to worry about power outages. The XL features hardware-based power-loss recovery. In case of a power failure, the XL stores the last known extruder location, so when the power is restored, the machine can pick up exactly where it left off - even with network prints!
Actively Updated
We publish new updates for our printers even years after release, bringing new, often major features that transform the way you print. The MK3S+ kept receiving firmware updates for more than six years. The Original Prusa MINI received a major Input Shaper update four years after release, which doubled its print speed.
Designed for Offline Use
The XL has been designed for native offline use, so if you don’t want to use the network services, you don’t have to. The printer can be configured completely without internet access and there are no drawbacks or limitations.
100% Privacy
We do not collect information about your prints or your printer’s surroundings. We believe that no matter whether you’re developing a new-generation space shuttle, or just printing silly things for your friends, no organization should be interested in this information. This is why our printers can be found in top companies, universities and research institutions around the world.
Our printers are primarily designed for completely offline operation with no drawbacks or limitations. You have the option to share data with our tech support and connect your printer to the Prusa Connect remote print management system, but only if you choose to do so.
Our code is open source, so you can always check that we aren’t cheating or stealing your files, even when you’re connected to the internet. See where our printers are used.

XL Enclosure
If you want to print more advanced technical materials on your XL, the official enclosure is the perfect fit. It stabilizes the printer environment, eliminates drafts and odors, and makes the printer even more silent.
An enclosure is not necessary for every type of filament. Many common materials, such as PLA, PETG, and even some advanced ones (like PCCF) do not require an enclosure. However, once you need to print with more advanced materials, such as ASA, ABS, PC and similar, the Enclosure is the best option to achieve increased temperatures in a stabilized environment, plus, the high-performance filtration system will take care of ultra-fine particles.
